This past October my husband, mom, stepdad and myself travelled to the beautiful island of St Lucia. If you want extremely hot and humid weather this is the place for you. We landed in Vieux Fort and only had to take a 2-3 minute ride to Coconut Bay Resort.
Coconut Bay Resort:
When arriving we pulled up to a large open air lobby that is very modern yet fits the tropical vacation image I was imagining. The lobby is completely open with huge fans that line the roof to keep you cool while relaxing on all the comfy lounge seating. The lobby was always busy due to the local entertainment performing there.
Our room was modern and tastefully decorated in white and teal with a king size bed and a pull out bed. The bathroom wasn’t updated and didn’t fit with the rest of the rooms décor but it was spacious. The housekeepers did a great job and the room was always clean. They also made towel art and left cake and champagne in our room for our anniversary.
This resort is quite big and has an adult only section called Harmony. I love the adult only side because the bar has a different menu with fun concoctions. There are sun chaser beds in front of the ocean that swivel so you are always facing the sun. I also think the Harmony side has the nicest view of the ocean. All adults have access to the Harmony side regardless of what side your room is located.
There are 5 pools, a spa and a waterpark within the resort. I must say the waterpark was a huge letdown and looks so much better online. The lazy river is a no moving river where you have to paddle (not my kind of fun). We went in low season (May to Oct) so the pools were never packed and you could almost always get a lounge bed or a chair on the beach. There’s a hut to use the resorts kayaks, boogie boards and paddleboards for free and you can also pay to learn how to kite surf. Coconut Bay is on the Atlantic side of the island so the water isn’t as clear as on the Caribbean side. There is lots of turtle grass (looks like seaweed) on the beach but the resort is constantly running a machine to clean it up.
This resort is all inclusive so I ate and drank to my hearts desire. Mojitos morning and night. The food is hands down the best food I have ever had on a trip. The buffet changes menu’s daily so you are never stuck eating the same options. The buffet has 2 grills that cook fresh food of your choice in front of you.
We spent breakfast at the buffet where they would make fresh pancakes, waffles and eggs. The smoothie bar was awesome and had lots of options for a healthy breakfast. We tried the fancier breakfast on the Harmony side once and the food was good but not worth the hour wait. Both places have a mimosas bar at the entrance to start your morning off right.
For lunch we usually ate at the buffet because they had every option for food you could imagine. I loved the grilled panini station. The beach grill is the other option for lunch and serves pub style food as well as hand tossed personalized pizzas. The wait time can be long depending on how many people have ordered.
Dinner options are the buffet or one of the three A La Carte restaurants. Silk was my favourite of the three serving Asian fusion. The sushi was amazing and the peanut butter cheesecake for dessert was to die for. Capri is the Italian style restaurant with a large antipasto bar. I had the seafood penne and it was full of massive prawns. They really don’t skimp on the amount food they serve you. Calabash serves Caribbean specialty cuisine. I had the Surf & Turf (steak and seafood) and it was the best steak I have had in my life.
The resort has 7 bars, one being a swim up bar and the bonus of a coffee bar in the lobby. All bars serve premium alcohol and have menu’s with tropical drinks to pick from. There is a nightclub above the lobby that does theme nights. The night before we left they had a chocolate party with tables filled with different chocolates, a chocolate fountain and chocolate martinis. The bartenders are well trained and know what they are doing. They can make you whatever you want if nothing on the menu appeals to you.
We had an awesome time at Coconut Bay Resort and met some great people. This resort is rated a 4.5 star and I agree with that rating. The food and drinks really make this resort stand out. My only complaints are the turtle grass but the resort did try to stay on top of cleaning it . They have loud tree frogs that chirp as soon as the sun goes down that were extremely annoying, I had to sleep with ear plugs. The lazy river as explained above and how bad the mosquitos were in the lobby at night (pack bug spray).
