Changing The Perception Of Beauty
Why are we still comparing ourselves to these photos of flawless women we see on the internet and television? No one can live their life in perfect lighting with their imperfections edited and posed in the most flattering angles. First off why are cellulite, stretch marks, acne and rolls called imperfections? Most women have all of these meaning they will live their life with “imperfections”. Who came up with calling all these completely normal parts of a woman’s body imperfections to begin with?
Imagine being a young girl in todays society. How scary it must be to think you have to live up to what you see on social media. What are we teaching young boys? They are growing up with an unrealistic view of what a woman’s body should look like. We should be teaching kids to love and treat their body right regardless of shape or size. Teach them to exercise and eat right to feel good not to look good.
Social media is filling our minds with an unrealistic image of what the perfect body should look like. Do not compare yourself to an image of someone flexing their abs in the perfect lighting. They don’t walk around looking like that. You may cross them on the street and they could look just like you. Yes a healthy lifestyle and working out can do wonders for the body but you may never look like the photos you are comparing yourself to on social media. This all comes down to genetics and the fact that every body is different. Embrace the body you have and treat it right.
We have this unrealistic perception of what we think we need to look like. Embrace the fact that we are all different because it makes us one of a kind. Don’t let society have that power over you to make you feel like you are not enough. Love yourself for who you are today inside and out. The problem is not with you it is with the world. Stop fixing bodies and start fixing the world.
