In April of 2015 my husband and I spent 10 amazing days at the all inclusive Dreams Villamagna Resort in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico. Located on Banderas Bay with a private beach. We booked through WestJet and had direct flights from Prince George to the Puerto Vallarta airport. We were upgraded to first class and got to enjoy free alcoholic beverages for the 5.5 hour flight. 3 days were spent exploring the resort and Nuevo Vallarta before our guests arrived for a week.
When we arrived we pulled up to a gorgeous marble floored open lobby with a spiral staircase and plenty of lounge seating. It was even better looking in person than photos I had seen on their website. The resort was extremely clean and the staff were all very friendly the entire trip. I’m sure the bartenders loved all the tips the wedding group provided over the week. This is one of the smallest resorts I have stayed at but it was perfect for a wedding because it wasn’t hard for everyone to find each other.
The resort has 4 pools and 6 restaurants as well as 5 bars. They have a full service spa that looked amazing but we didn’t have time to book any services. There was always activities happening to keep guests entertained like yoga, volleyball, tennis ect. One day we went on a 1.5 hour bike tour with a guide from the resort to a local market.
Our room was beautiful and looked newly upgraded. The room was huge with king size bed, a sectional couch and mini bar. The bathroom was huge with double vanities, an enclosed room for the toilet, a shower and a deep soaker tub. My only complaint was that the bathroom didn’t have a wall separating it from the rest of the room. It had a curtain for privacy. My favourite part was the exterior Jacuzzi on the balcony over looking the resort and the ocean. I used this almost every night and wish more resorts had this feature.
There was 24 hour room service for drinks and food with no additional charge. I would stay at a Dreams Resort in the future just for this luxury. There was even a pillow catalogue for you to choose the pillow of your choice for your stay. All rooms come with free wifi which is slow but still worked. The connection is much faster in the lobby.
There are 4 a la carte restaurants, 1 buffet and 1 café. The World Café was an international buffet that we ate breakfast at everyday. It was good food but the menu didn’t change much from day to day. I would choose to eat at any of the other options over the buffet. Coco Café was my favourite little snack place. If we didn’t feel like eating at the buffet we would just grab something to go at Coco Café.
For lunch we always went to Oceana the seafood restaurant that turns into an a la carte at night. There shrimp burrito is amazing. The seaside grill was the other lunch option with fries, hotdogs and burgers. The buffet was open for lunch but we liked the other options more so we never went for lunch.
The a la carte options are Oceana, Seaside Grill, Portofino and El Patio. Oceana is all seafood entrees and main meal. So delicious my favourite of the trip. Seaside Grill has grilled steaks, pork, chicken and fish. Portofino is a Tuscan italan restaurant. This was my least favourite mainly because I didn’t know what anything was on the menu and my meal was decent but nothing worth remembering. El Patio is authentic Mexican cuisine and it was good but not many menu options compared to the other a la carte restaurants. The Gohan Sky Bar serves awesome sushi. I’m not really sure why they don’t mention this on their website as it was one of my favourite places to go for a drink and to eat.
The room service food was the best ever. We ordered every night of the trip after the restaurants had closed. The food was so good and at no extra charge why wouldn’t you order 10 plates of food a night to munch on. Shrimp pesto pizza and the fries were my favourite.
This resort has awesome drinks and use quality liquor. Sugar Reef Bar was great for when you are by the pool or on the beach as it is right there. It’s shaded and has swings to sit on and enjoy your beverage. This was the bar that I was able to use for my wedding.
Rendezvous Lobby Bar had some of the best bartenders who were always so friendly and would create anything you wanted. I’m sure they got annoyed with us always hanging around waiting for it to open up in the morning. This bar is the busiest out of them all as it is where most people hang out in the evenings.
The Gohan Sky Bar was my favourite! It overlooked the resort and the ocean and was great to hang out with friends after the other restaurants closed as this was open late. It also made the BEST mojito.
The Barracuda Bar is located inside the Oceana so the only time we used it was when we were eating there. The 5th bar is the Marlin Bar inside the El Patio restaurant. The drinks on this trip did not disappoint!
