After all my adventures I have learned what is essential to surviving a long layover. Airports can be fun to check out and do some shopping but if you end up with a 5 hour layover you will need something else to keep you occupied. My essentials will also keep you comfortable and happy on your flight!
You won’t wake up feeling like you were hit by a bus when you wake up after falling asleep during your flight. Perfect for those long layovers where you need to curl up on the seats and have a quick nap. They are bulky to carry around but I like to sleep on the plane so I always pack mine to save me from the neck pain.
Don’t forget your headphones! They are perfect for passing time during a layover watching Netflix or YouTube. Bringing your own also saves you from having to buy them on the plane to use with their entertainment system.
I made the mistake of forgetting mine on the last trip I went on which meant I had to share with my husband the whole flight. Not easy when both devices are dying and you have to keep switching the charger back and forth every 10 minutes.
If you own an Ipad or tablet now is the time to bring it! Most planes are now switching to the app you sign into on your device to watch their entertainment channels. This means that they are getting rid of the TV’s that were originally on the headrest. If you don’t bring an Ipad and don’t want to pay to rent theirs you will be stuck watching movies on your phone the whole flight. My Ipad has always come in handy during layovers to watch Netflix.
My new favourite is this black leather pouch that I keep all my resort and travel vouchers in as well as my passport for easy access. No more searching through your carry on to find the documents you need. (Another essential is your passport DO NOT forget it for obvious reasons.)
Think of how many people are in an airport daily and all those germs. Hand sanitizer is my savior on any trip. The mini ones from Bath & Body Works are the perfect size for travel and smell great!
This only applies if you are headed to a sunny destination. That moment you step out of the airport and are blinded is when they will come in handy. You don’t want to miss out on the beautiful scenery because you can’t see anything.
