My favourite part of any trip is the food and Nanaimo did not disappoint! I was so impressed with every where I ate and this had to be one of my best trips for delicious food. There are so many cute cafe’s and locally owned restaurants to choose from. Here are some of my must try places if you are visiting Nanaimo!
I was in heaven here! So many amazing desserts to choose from and all fresh! I had a slice of raspberry lemoncheesecake and a salted caramel Nanaimo bar and holy crap was it good! Really great prices for the huge portion sizes. The coffee was good and they had lots of options to pick from. If you want a sweet treat this is the place to check out!
Gabriel’s Gourmet Café
This café is so great not just because of the food but because of their mission “We strive to source our ingredients direct from the farmer. By building partnerships with local, small scale family farms, we are able to bring you fresh seasonal vegetables, free range eggs and pasture fed ethically raised meats.”-Gabriel’s Gourmet Café. To start the café is really cute inside and has a large selection for breakfast and lunch. I had a salmon and rock cod chowder with a shrimp chipotle wrap with mixed greens. It was amazing and so fresh. This is a place you can really feel good about eating at firstly because the food is fresh and delicious but secondly you are supporting local farmers and the ethical treatment of animals. I couldn’t believe how well priced the food is for everything being local. My meal with a coffee came to $13.50! If you want a healthy meal you have to stop here! This was my favourite meal of the trip!
If you like sushi you must go here! I tried a new roll and it is now my new favourite it’s called the Palm Beach Roll and has cream cheese, prawn tempura, cucumber with avocado and teriyaki sauce. They have a large menu so there is something for everyone. I love inside of this restaurant its very small but is decorated with nice light fixtures and cherry blossom trees along the walls.
Gina’s Mexican Café
This pink building is just as colourful on the inside and makes you feel like you are in Mexico. Best Mexican food I have had that wasn’t from Mexico. So many options on the menu and the best daiquiri ever! I had the Navajo combination meal that came with a grilled chicken burrito, a beef enchilada, Spanish rice, frijoles and corn. You get so much food for a really good price!
