Lakelse Lake Provincial Park
September long weekend we travelled to Terrace to stay at Lakelse Lake Provincial Park 20 km’s south of Terrace. This park is amazing with large camp sites, paved roads, a beautiful beach and awesome walking trails. If you love to camp then this is a must try spot. Our spot was a 2 minute walk to the beach. The water was so warm people were still swimming at 9 pm. We brought our kayaks and used them everyday. There are great walking paths through the forest that were a few km’s long. This is a very pet friendly park so it was perfect for us as we could walk them on the trails off leash every morning. This was my favourite camping trip of the summer and I plan on going back every year.
On our second day we headed to Ferry Island to check out their trails with the dogs. One thing that makes Ferry Island unique is the carvings in the trees that you can try and spot along the trails. It was a gorgeous day to walk along the Skeena River and we found a clearing to stop and eat lunch. Another great thing about Ferry Island is that there is an off leash portion. You can easily spend 2-3 hours walking the trails.
Nisga’a Memorial Lava Bed Provincial Park
The highlight of the trip was a self guided auto tour of the Nass Valley located 80 km’s out of Terrace. 250 years ago a volcanic eruption spewed lava into the valley. This beautiful scenic tour is the perfect day trip with no cost involved other than gas and a packed lunch. Pick up a brochure from the Terrace Visitors Center for more information on the stops and for a map.
There are numbered signs along the highway with pullouts for you to stop at. You will see waterfalls, lava rock, museums, a beautiful lake and wildlife on these stops. My favourite stop was Lava Lake because of its turquoise water and great picnic area where we sat and ate our lunch. If you like photography there are endless amounts of gorgeous scenery on this tour to photograph. If you haven’t done this already and are headed to Terrace you need to check out Nisga’a Provincial Park.
