One of my favourite summer vacation spots is Vernon, BC. I love getting to visit with my grandma and soak up the sun. There are endless amounts of outdoor activites in the spring and summer months. Every time I visit I try to find new things to see and do. My summer 2016 trip was full of outdoor adventures from cuddling kangaroo’s to tackling an aerial course. Here are a few of my favourite places to check out in and around Vernon.
Kangaroo Creek Farm
Located outside of Vernon in Lake Country this Kangaroo farm is open from March to October each year. You will get to see and touch kangaroos, Wallaroos, Wallaby’s, Sugar Glider’s, Capybara’s and exotic birds. The admission cost is $10 per adult and $5 per youth (5 and under are free) which is a great price considering how much there is to see.
Sparkling Hill Resort
Visit this luxury wellness resort built in 2010 for breathtaking views of Okanagan Lake. We walked around the inside of the resort which is amazing and has crystals everywhere. We stopped and had a drink and dessert from Barrique & Java, a coffee shop by day and wine bar by night. The coffee shop is in a great location over looking the lake. Stop at Predator Ridge on your way back to walk around and check it out.
Gray Monk Estate Winery
Visit the okanagan’s oldest and family owned and operated winery in Lake Country. This winery is gorgeous and has amazing views from it’s patio. We didn’t do a tour but we did do the complimentary tasting of 4 wines. Everything I tried I liked and bought a few bottles to take home as well as some wine infused soap.
Oyama Zipline Forest Adventure
My husband and I did the new aerial course located between Kelown and Vernon on the last day of our trip. We chose the aerial course as it was more of a workout than the ziplining course. It was a really fun and challenging way to spend a few hours. I would love to go back and try the ziplining next. It is on the pricier side at $34 per adult for the aerial course and $100 per adult for the ziplining course.
Middleton Mountain Trails
I LOVE to hike and this is an awesome trail that is a great workout and has the best view of Kalamalka Lake (also recommend you rent a paddleboard and hit up Kalamalka for an afternoon). You will see Kalamalka Lake, the city of Vernon and Swan Lake when you reach the summit. There are benches along the trail to sit and take in the views. There are multiple access points for the trail and I am lucky that my grandmas house is a short walk from one. This is a trail I love to do every time I visit.
