Habits For A Happier Morning
Before I moved to the Okanagan I would wake up every morning with hardly any time to get ready and had no routine what so ever. 5 weeks ago I started implementing new morning habits and it has been life changing! Having a solid morning routine will ensure you start each day off on the right foot. Starting your day off right is key for a happier and stress free day. The shift in my energy and motivation has me kicking myself for not starting this years earlier.
I always prep my breakfast the night before and get anything I need for the day together. Prep a lunch the night before so you can skip eating out and save some cash. The things I prep the night before are my breakfast, lunch, fill my water bottle and lay out my clothes.
Set your alarm so you are never rushed in the morning. I used to wake up 20-30 minutes before work but now I wake up a minimum of an hour and a half before I need to be out the door. Waking up early means no running out the door like a chicken with its head cut off to later realize you haven’t even eaten or brushed your teeth.
I have been doing a 5 minute meditation in bed every morning before I get up and do anything. 5 minutes is all it takes to breath and feel relaxed for the day ahead. I use free meditation apps like ‘Headspace’ and ‘Simple Habit’. YouTube and Spotify also have great meditations.
When I am doing my hair and makeup each morning I listen to a podcast episode. My favourites are ‘Soul Sparks’, ‘Ted Talks Daily’ and ‘Super Soul Conversations’. It’s awesome to start the day off listening to something interesting and positive. YouTube a topic that interests you if you can’t find a podcast you enjoy.
5 minutes of stretching or yoga really helps wake me up in the morning. I do yoga for the length of ‘To build a home’ by The Cinematic Orchestra. This song is around 5 minutes long so it’s the perfect length to get a quick stretch in.
