“Your 20’s are your selfish years. It’s a decade to immerse yourself in every single thing possible. Be selfish with your time, and all the aspects of you. Tinker with shit, travel, explore, love a lot, love a little, and never touch the ground.” – Kyoko Escamilla (insert clapping emoji). After holding onto this quote for quite some time I finally found a post to use it in. I hope 25 treats me just as well as 24 did because I had a year filled with adventure, life changes and amazing memories.
I have to say this is the most different birthday I have ever had. One of the first times I have spent my birthday away from my mom and friends. But also one of my first birthdays in as long as I can remember that I got to celebrate with both of my grandmas and grandpa. The best part was the green grass, can’t say I have seen that on December 11th before.
I started off the morning at the ‘Craft Culture Holiday Market’, Kelowna’s largest craft fair. It took about 20 minutes to get inside due to it being at capacity so I would recommend going right when it opens. So many awesome vendors and a great place to get unique and handmade Christmas gifts.
I can’t celebrate anything without some wine! My husband, grandma, sister, her boyfriend and I did tastings at 3 wineries on the Westside Wine Trail.
The Hatch Winery is a unique little place to check out with rustic décor and relaxed and friendly staff. I must say I was not a fan of any of the wine from our tasting but was still worth it to have a look around. It would be a great place to check out during the summer months.
Next up was Quails Gate Winery where you enjoy lake views from the tasting bar. I was very impressed with the complimentary tasting we had. I had a shot of their ‘Fortified Vintage Foch’, a port style dessert wine in a chocolate cup and it was amazing!
Mission Hills Winery was our last stop and is a must see especially during the holiday season. There is a hall of Christmas trees all decorated differently for the ‘Festival of Trees’, a holiday event to raise funds for the BC Children’s Hospital. You have the option to donate the $5 tasting fee towards this event.
I was treated to two delicious lunches by my grandparents. Not to mention cake, cupcakes and treats because is it even your birthday if you don’t eat cake?
